Who writes this stuff

Hi, I'm Nick

I write nearly everything you'll read on here, which is either reassuring or slightly worrying depending on how you feel about one bloke and a laptop.

My first proper trip was Brazil back in 2007. I got lost, ran out of money, saw a sloth, and have been planning trips ever since. These days it's mostly road trips, long walks round cities, and working out how to do all of it without spending a fortune.

  • Practical details get checked against official sources, and we show you which ones.
  • AI helps with drafting. A human writes, checks and signs off every guide before it goes live. Full editorial and AI policy here.
  • No paid placements pretending to be recommendations. If a link earns us something, we say so.
  • Guides get updated when the rules or the prices change, not when the calendar says so.

Done for you

Want it done for you?

Not everyone fancies spending their evenings buried in twenty browser tabs and a spreadsheet. Fair enough. Tell us where you're going and what you're into, and we'll put together a proper day by day itinerary. Real routes, sensible timings, and the spots we'd actually go back to.

Keeping the lights on

Free to read, and staying that way

No paywall, no sign up wall, no 600 words about my childhood before the actual answer. The site runs on a few ads, the odd affiliate link, and readers who chip in.

If a guide saved you money or a headache, you can throw something in the pot. If not, no hard feelings. It all stays free either way.

Before you ask

Questions we get a lot

The short answers. Longer ones live on the about and editorial pages.

Is everything on the site free?

The guides, the planning tools and the starter kit are all free, and always have been. The only paid things are our bespoke itineraries and the Google Map legends in the shop.

Who actually writes the guides?

Nick, mostly. Every guide is written, checked and signed off by a human before it goes anywhere near the publish button. AI gets used as a drafting assistant, never as a substitute for knowing the place. The full breakdown is on our editorial guidelines and AI policy page.

How do you make money if the guides are free?

Display ads, and a small commission when someone books through one of our links. That costs you nothing extra. We also sell bespoke itineraries and map legends, and a few kind souls chip in on Patreon. Full details in the affiliate disclosure.

How often do you update the guides?

When something changes. Baggage rules, entry requirements and prices move around constantly, so those get revisited often. Posts with practical facts carry a sources checked box at the bottom showing exactly where the details came from.

Can you plan a trip for me?

Yes. A bespoke itinerary is a proper day by day plan built round where you're going, how long you've got, and the sort of stuff you actually enjoy. Have a look at the bespoke itineraries page.

Do you take sponsored posts or press trips?

Sometimes, and only where it fits what we already cover. Anything paid for gets labelled clearly so you know what you're reading. If you'd like to talk, the work with us page is the place to start.

What currency are the prices in?

Pounds first, with euros and dollars in brackets. Prices get dated in the post so you can see how fresh they are before you plan round them.
