ToggleBest Places To Visit In October
Brief Overview
The month of October is perfect for a getaway. Why? All the reasons would take all day to explain, but the 11 locations below should give you a good idea of the magic that awaits you. While fall is beautiful almost anywhere, these locations truly are something special.
The best places to visit in October are Hall of Fame destinations, and they offer everything from world-famous events to innovative sustainable travel on ice, earth, and sky. Oh, and there are tonnes of animals decked out for halloween. Exactly what else could one want? Prepare for your trip by brushing off your passport and packing your bags.
Berlin
If you’re searching for a reason to travel to Berlin (and aren’t we all? ), why not go for the Berlin Festival of Lights?
Spend a night out in Germany’s stylish capital, where the ancient buildings and landmarks are beautifully illuminated. The modern metropolis serves as a backdrop for dramatic performances in which light is used to convey profoundly moving stories.
Several of the world’s most prominent artists in the field of light art will be performing and exhibiting their work during this festival, which is one of the largest of its kind in the world.
Toronto
Toronto is one of the world’s most fascinating cities, with a vibrant nightlife, world-class dining, and some of the best concert halls and clubs in North America. In what ways is October an ideal time to visit? That would be hockey. To be sure, Maple Leafs fans have had it rough for the better part of a decade, but at least the team’s play during the regular season is no longer a cause for concern. After opening the 2022 season on the road against the Montreal Canadiens on October 12, the Toronto Maple Leafs will host the Washington Capitals the following night. In the absence of tickets, catching a game in a Toronto watering hole should be on your list of must-dos.
Austin, Texas
Austin City Limits is one of the best music festivals in the world, and it’s held every year in Zilker Park in Austin, Texas.
Including everything from blues to rock ‘n’ roll to folk and hip-hop, this legendary festival attracts over 400,000 people every year to the park.
Many partygoers look forward to the selection of tasty treats almost as much as they do to the music. Festival-goers in Austin, a city renowned for its cuisine, can look forward to a wide selection of tried-and-true Texas dishes. Stop into Scholz Garten, an Austin staple, for some bratwurst, or stop by Ranch Hand for some organic Texas meats.
Hitachinaka, Japan
If you’re ready to accept autumn instead of resist it, a trip to Japan’s Kanto region can reward you with breathtaking displays of fall foliage.
In the Ibaraki Prefecture, there is a public park known as Hitachi Seaside Park, and it is particularly well-known for two seasons and two flowers. The hillside turns a beautiful shade of Mayan blue when the nemophila flower, also called ‘baby blue eyes,’ blooms in the spring. The flower petals cover the ground, making it look as if the hills are a mirror image of the sky on a sunny day.
The mystical kochia flower blooms in the fall and steals the show. The hills get blanketed in the red pom poms of this globular shrub.
The park’s designers constructed a winding road down the hillside and planted an abundance of Kochia flowers on either side, creating a natural wonder that is both beautiful and purposeful.
Mauritius, Indian Ocean
Autumn in Mauritius is like spring since the weather is now beginning to warm up after a mild winter. However neither rain nor humidity have set in. Flowers the size of the Indian Ocean are blooming, and the jungle is alive with the sounds of animals calling and rustling. We strongly advise you to accept any trip to Mauritius, regardless of the time of year. Nonetheless, October is one of the best months.
Darjeeling, India
It’s the conclusion of the monsoon season this month, making it the perfect time to visit India’s most well-known hill station, where the mist and rain will soon be replaced by breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Tiger Hill, where you can see the world’s third-highest summit, Mount Kanchenjunga, in the morning light, should be at the top of your list. Midway through October is when you should see the impact at its peak; if you look closely, you might even be able to make out Everest off to the left. Enjoy afternoon tea at Victorian-style heritage hotels and sample the “Champagne of teas” at nearby plantations; ride the UNESCO-listed steam railway, lovingly dubbed “the toy train.”
New York City
During the holiday season, New York City is much more enjoyable than usual, thanks to snow and a plethora of ornaments. Central Park is home to beautiful cherry blossoms every spring. With summer comes long, sultry nights, and with autumn comes a burned amber colour to everything. Tompkins Square in Manhattan hosts its annual Halloween Dog Parade on Halloween, revealing the canine population of New York City in a spooky new light as dogs and their owners arrive in ever-more creative costumes.
Vienna, Austria
Though Austria’s capital is better known for grand imperial palaces and an even grander musical legacy (Mozart and Beethoven), one of the city’s finest assets is its urban vineyards. Forget a designated driver, just take the tram to the pretty outer suburbs, where rows of vines spread across grassy slopes, as skyline views and the Danube stretch out below. October marks the harvest, when the vineyards are at their greenest and winemakers open up their operations to enquiring minds (and mouths). There are several designated wine trails to follow, where vintners hand out samples from both cellar and kitchen, and autumn’s mild, sunny days are ideally suited to frolics in the fields.
Rome, Italy
Throughout the month of August, all of Italy goes on vacation. It’s terribly hot and crowded in Rome, despite the fact that most Romans have probably fled to the beach. Both July and the majority of June are incredibly hectic and hot. It used to be that May and September were less busy, but now that more people know about it, those months are as hectic as any others. Even though the holiday season is hectic, winter may be depressing. As a result, we’ve settled on October as the best time to visit Rome, as it’s not as crowded, the weather is still pleasant, and you can take a picture of yourself in front of the Trevi Fountain in the golden light of late summer without too many other visitors getting in the way.
Iceland
There are a disproportionately large number of tourists in Iceland compared to the local population. The gorgeous Scandinavian country, home to just 340,000 people, is swarmed by tourists looking for a one-of-a-kind experience.
Strangely, the peak tourist season is July and August, when temperatures are typically at their highest. Nevertheless, just because the weather is nicer doesn’t mean you’ve had a genuine Icelandic experience.
It is best to visit later in the year to witness the spectacular green Northern Lights dancing across the sky. From late August to late April, Iceland’s night sky is completely dark. The average temperature in October is 4 degrees Celsius, making it a pleasant time to go because it is neither too cold nor too warm.
Although 4 degrees Celsius may sound chilly, it is actually one of the warmest sites to view the Northern Lights at 65 degrees north, where they may be seen nearly every night during this season.
